Featuring Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins

Come watch the 20 minute video highlighting some of our water issues facing our world.

Join the non-profit organization Hope 2 One Life with the Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins in celebrating World Water Day 2019.

Wilmot Collins is a Liberian-born American politician and the current mayor of  Helena, Montana. He is the first black person to be elected the mayor of any city in the history of Montana since statehood.  Collins fled his native Liberia for Helena in 1994, as a refugee from the First Liberian Civil War.  He subsequently became a United States citizen, and worked for the Montana Department of Health and Human Services, specializing in child protection.  For two decades, he has been a member of the United States Navy Reserve.  Collins has two children with his wife, their daughter, Jaymie and their son, Bliss.

About World Water Day

Good clean water that developed countries take for granted is not available for most people in underdeveloped countries. Worldwide, thousands of children die each day from illnesses resulting from contaminated water sources and billions lack access to clean water, sanitation and health care. Water is essential for life and survival. The water crisis leads to widespread suffering, increased poverty rates, high infant and child mortality, political instability, and depressed education levels. It condemns billions of people to a perpetual struggle to survive. It impacts the ability to attend school, time available for income generating work and overall quality of life.

What is World Water Day?
World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about focusing attention on the importance of water.

Today, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home; affecting their health, education and livelihoods.

Sustainable Development Goal 6 commits the world to ensuring that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets on protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution.

Take action

Wherever you are and whatever you do on March 22, make it about nature and water
