Farming God’s Way: What It Is and How It’s Making a Big Impact

March 1st, 2022

Hope 2 One Life and the Agape Community Foundation for Development (ACFD) are blessed to partner with the Farming God’s Way (FGW) Uganda program and trainers since 2015. We have invested in comprehensive training of our partner ACFD staff in Farming God’s Way method, including in-field mentorship and vegetable gardening. The FGW training was very important for the directors of ACFD because they are involved in training and supervising the workers in the farm and community groups. The community groups submitted a proposal and were granted a micro loan and gift for needed farming supplies with Hope 2 One Life

The yearly FGW trainings were on hold due to the pandemic, yet recently in Feb 2022 a Northern Uganda training occurred.  Denis Odong, Farm Manager is an in field mentor with FGW Uganda and taught part of the program. He did on-site field visits following, which are vitally important. It builds the capacity of the people who were already practicing farming God’s Way in their home or community adds more knowledge and skills in vegetable layouts and land preparation, composting and use of compost, planting seeds and seedlings, mulching, pest and disease management and farming business management. Marketing is critical for income generation.

In field mentorship by Denis on the Agape Farm for the first time with the Uganda Mission Team in June 2022, learn more here..
He followed up again in Sept 2022 in their own villages and plans to continue these follow up visits regularly.

Training goals include:

  • Developing soil health
  • Composting
  • Precision garden layout and cultivation (minimal tillage)
  • Pest and disease management
  • Marketing
  • and more

This training of Farming God’s Way will not only impart knowledge base, but practical empowerment to the communities to bring about change in their life and prayerfully to become an agent of change in communities for the King and His Kingdom.

At the end of the course, the learners were able to:
1. Demonstrate heartfelt concern for the poor.
2. Demonstrate an appreciation of ‘Kingdom Agriculture’ as a relevant transformational message.
3. Apply biblical principles for ‘the redemption of the land’.
4. Apply practical farming skills as God has revealed through His creation.
5. Share the principles learned as a message of hope to the hopeless

“Farming God’s Way is an amazing Godly solution to the food security and poverty crisis for the rural poor. Farming God’s Way is not just a technology but a well-balanced biblical, management and technological solution for the agricultural domain, equipping the poor to come out of poverty with what God has put in their hands and revealing the fullness of His promised abundant life.

“We are so excited to be planting seeds for the season which are groundnuts! We will use this to make sauce, porridge and other protein-rich foods. What a blessing to share the love of Jesus through this amazing program.” – Denis Odong, ACFD farm manager

“Before I attended the training, I used to get poor crop yields that could hardly support me and my family, but after the FGW training in Gulu, I tried planting a small garden of rice that yielded very well. This time I am making compost to be used in my garden and also allow me to grow vegetables which will pay even more. This way I will be able to support my children with good food and have enough money to support them in school and pay medical bills. Thank you very much for taking me for the training.” – Oloya Walter, Awere Side by Side Farmers Group
